Promoting tooth protection

Oliveros, Guatemala – This marks the tenth year that Rotary clubs from around Wisconsin have sponsored the Guatemala Medical Resources Partnership.

The Rotary Club of Racine Downtown is participating in the project for the first time. The Racine Club learned that the medical mission spent the first several years attending to the most chronic dental problems, which often meant teeth were pulled.

Over the years, the visitors taught patients about prevention and oral health. Now, patients come to the annual clinic for fillings as well. The GMRP grew in hope to save children and young adult teeth by sealing them. The Racine Rotary club purchased a sealant light to make that prevention work possible.

Here, Linda Tipler, a nurse from Chilton, and Paul Patenaude, a nurse from Madison, seal the first teeth at the mission.
