Flory’s Story
Flory bridges the gap for patients
Oliveros, Guatemala – Nearly every hour, someone on the Guatemala Medical Resources Partnership team was in search of Floridalma Quintanilla, the new continued care coordinator of the group.
It was Saturday, and Judy Newton was searching for “Flory.” “Perhaps she can help this family,” Judy said.
The family was homeless and in need of medical and psychological care. They had difficulty finding help since they never knew where they would end up staying for the evening.
Maria, 40, indicated that her 10-year-old son, Juan, had been in a terrible car accident eight months ago and was still suffering effects from the incident and needed care. Her other son, William, 13, was battling a raging eye infection.
Flori sat down and began taking notes. By the end of the conversation, she had linked the family with telephone numbers, appointments and resources to get them the assistance they needed.
